About Us

We are a team of Virginia Tech students whose goal is simple: to put a rocket in space. Specifically, we want to be able to place 5U (7kg) of CubeSat into Low Earth Orbit. Something like this has never been done before by an amateur organization (i.e. not a government or large government-aided corporation) and it will have huge implications for low-cost access to space. Colleges across the country could follow our lead and develop a method to put satellites and small experiments into space themselves.  This will give a serious boost to the space industry and give students who are, like us, extremely passionate about space an opportunity to gain hands-on experience on a project that is directly relevant to their future careers. It will also allow Virginia Tech to develop a ground-to-LEO launch service for other universities' projects, which will provide income for the Team to enable us to keep innovating.

If you think this is the coolest thing you've ever heard, please don't hesitate to get involved! Like our Facebook page for updates, and if you're feeling generous, consider sponsoring us. Anything is greatly appreciated because building an orbital launch vehicle is, as you would expect, quite expensive. Thank you! Additionally, if you happen to be a Virginia Tech student in any major and want to join the team, apply now.

Check out our promo video to the right. OLVT is currently designing a two stage rocket capable of breaking the Karman line.
Although our last trip to BALLS didn't quite go as planned, we are committed to reaching space and in the redesign process.

More information on our current rocket can be found on our Kickstarter page, which funded $5,941 of it in June 2018.

Hello rocket enthusiasts!!!
I'll bet y'all have been wondering what OLVT has been up to. Well here is our update for Hokie 0.5! We have come close to assembling the motor mounts and fin cans which is a multi step process. We have cut and welded blast canisters and blast shields. All that we have left is the electronics and the electronics bay as well as the final assembly. Keep looking up and look out for our launch videos in late September!

As always thank you so much for your support!!

We are selling T-shirts and stickers on our website!!! Every dollar of T-shirt sales goes directly towards the building of our next rocket Hokie 0.5. Also anyone who buys a T-shirt will have their name printed on Hokie 0.5 prior to its launch!!!

Thank you so much for your support, we will see you on the launchpad!!!
