SKIPPER 1

CURRENT PROJECT

PURPOSE AND HISTORY

Skipper 1 is a single-stage sub scale solid motor test rocket that will serve as the sustainer stage for the 2-stage Skipper 2 rocket. This rocket is manufactured entirely in house and will prove design concepts to be upscaled for the Hokie 0.75 launch vehicle. It utilizes a dual recovery deployment system and will be constructed entirely from composite materials. OLVT has  launched five variations of the  Skipper 1 rocket with Skipper 1E in April of 2024.  The team plans to begin the Skipper 2 project in the upcoming Fall 2024 semester.
